The Inspiration of the Sciences

Triumph of St. Thomas and Allegory of the Sciences
Andrea da Firenze
Ancient scientists sit in a row with women sitting behind them, perhaps they're some sort of muses. This needs more research. This image is a detail of a larger fresco. In the fresco it looks like priests or saints sit above the scientist, and above them are angels.

Newton refracts the light: Rays of light often represent inspiration in art. It these paintings Newton refracts a ray of light. This could be used to illustrate the rational scientific view of inspiration, taking control of it with the mind and studying it.
