12/1/02 meeting
12 minute freestyle writing question: Who have you inspired (it can be in truth or fiction)?
Edwin
First off, I don't think I have inspired anyone. People talk about teachers who have inspired them. I never has a teacher inspire me. Who have I inspired? Maybe I inspired someone to get angry with me? Plenty of people have gotten pissed off at me.
I never thought of even trying to inspire? or have I? Should have written this on the computer to save rewriting it.
Back to the question. Maybe someone could tell me they were inspired. Did my books inspire anyone? I've seen a picture - or pictures of children - little girls learning ballet. Standing and listening intently to the teacher. A boy, standing next to a Banjo player, trying to learn how to play.
Searching, searching, for someone I inspired. Can you know if you inspire someone? I would hope I could inspire people to explore the spirit, explore values. That brings up the question, How to inspire someone? I could do it by accident or try to do it consciously. If you know how inspiration works, it may be possible to inspire by conscious design. Would that be manipulation?
Joan is probably going to to tell the story of the student that came up to her in the ghetto school and was sorry to see her go.
I'm no great inspiration speaker. Seems you need to strongly believe in what you are saying.
This question causes some soul searching. Do I want to inspire?

I inspired another artist with my vision of nature, she recently told me. I inspired a group at Esalen residents and work scholars to build elaborate masks and participate in the all-species parade there in July of '92. I recall several people saying they were inspired by my Biodrama performances. Also, the Biodrama group was inspired by me to do an absolutely gorgeous Biodrama for me.
I have inspired several students in the course of teaching art. That was very rewarding - to see someone discovering their capabilities and blossoming as a result of my way of teaching. I feel like I have inspired more people that I can possibly remember.
Many people told me they were profoundly inspired by my leadership at the Creative Arts Center at Esalen. Quite a few others bought my figurative paintings, saying they were inspired by my vision of beauty and sensuality.
My present illustration project is very inspiring to the book's author. Another artist friend says he is inspired by my long-term commitment to art.

"I am going to miss you." he said as he looked at his feet and shuffled his hands in his pocket. A rather large framed, sloppily attired 18 year old stood in my 8th grade classroom. This was an unusual sight to see this particular teen stepping inside a classroom. He had been a thorn in the side of most of the teachers at Jefferson Junior High School in Jacksonville, Florida. His hostile and ill behaved presence was one that most teachers hoped would not come near their classrooms. When he was present, his disruptions would put all the 13 and 14 year olds in a state of chaos.
Seeing his civil and almost sheepish behavior today, melted my resistance to him immediately. My heart reached out. Had I actually touched this untouchable teen? That question has lead me in a long journey. I wonder what effect this connection my have had in his life's sojourn?

My niece... she told me that I showed her that it is ok to live differently (and spell differently).
I also inspired Marylyn Monroe., Gandhi, Colombo, Betty Boop, The Price of Darkness, Helen Calicott, Quanyan, Al Capone, frogs and cats and flowers.
I also inspire myself, but right now I feel stuck...so, I'm starting to move again, out of stuck into move, move move, just keep writing, Don't stop.
Oh no, I just turned the hot water off and I'm stuck again. So move move move, left, right, write, breath.
Oh yes, I can inspire me.

Ideas for meeting;
We have tried out many different activities to explore aspects of inspiration. In this meeting we will evaluate what we have done and plan out the new years activities.
Edwin;
I would like to build a more systematic curriculum of activities that build more effectively from meeting to meeting.
