Edwin    - Inspiration and The CareFree Poet

Inspiration,  by Robert W. Service

.....

A-squatting on a thymy slope
With vast of sky about me,
I've scribbled on an envelope
The rhymes the hills would shout me;
The couplets that the trees would call,
The lays the breezes proffered . . .
Oh no, I didn't think at all -
I took what Nature offered.

....

The poem was about inspiration and the carefree Poet. He has no thought in his head. He sits on a hill looking up at the sky and writes what comes to him. He writes what the hills speak to him.

It turns out he's sitting in a field of thyme. It only dawned on me after acting out the scene that the field was thyme or really 'time'.. He has lots of time, he's surrounded by it. The more I look at the poem and work with it, the more aspects of it I see.

I like the feeling of plenty of time.

The Poet, squatting on the hillside looks up into the sky and writes what he hears. Around him grows the thyme. The thyme growing next to him looks a little droopy however.
